Prodrift Round 1 2012: The siege of Ennis PT1

After a somewhat silent winter it was nice to see the crowds and drivers arrive at Ennis. We all know what the recession is doing to the car scene, every Evo, skybus and Silvia has been replaced by TDI power, which in ways has brought some interesting stuff as people explore new car platforms but the fuel prices and Tax has and loss of jobs has crippled pretty much a mega chunk of the Irish scene. This is why I have to give the utmost respect to any driver competing this year….

The idea of people building new and awesome looking drift cars in the middle of a recession shows that quite a few people in the scene are giving the whole thing a massive middle finger. Drifting is alive and well and the competition was as good as ever with quite a few new cars on the scene, like Dave Egan’s sexy zenki faced 14. It was a nice feeling to know that people were still pushing the level regardless of financial security. It’s good to see the big horse power machines alive and well on the track, even if that the last place they have to be.

I always love seeing the more unusual chassis out on the track mixing things up, especially a more door wagon like this JZX81. We need more four door mobiles in drifting!

It doesn’t get more “JDM YO” then having a pimp Japanese Isuzu car carrier for your drift machine! Is it sad that this got me excited? I’d say so…

We decided not to do a separate car park feature this time around as pretty much the entire car park was made up of Diesel machines, as to be expected in such “tough times” But what was lurking out there did make up for it, some people are holding it down!

Clean! This 15 was just about right.

This C-west strawberry face keeps getting better, and is sitting quite nicely as of recent on some Milky white CR-Kai’s. Good stuff.

Got Gauge?

Nice to see a non track s13, these things have become horribly scarce.

The same goes for the Rex 7, a car that sort of just evaporated. This one was looking quite desirable.

Shit this thing is oozing with potential!

A non-white AE111 with non-white wheels is always interesting, especially when it’s a super clean TE37 wearing example.

It was so good to see that this 180 is alive and hadn’t fell victim to the breaking.

One of the few 86′s outside of the competition.

This Zenki fronted 14 was also pretty good. Decent wheel fitment too!

Speaking of fitment, Peden’s 33 shaping up very nicely, it reminds you just how good a 33 can look when its executed properly.

This car!

Alan Sinnott’s Trueno Keeps getting better and better! Possibly the best drift liveried car in the country?

Stephen Bradys car is so stealth this picture was almost impossible to take! Such a mean looking car.

It was nice to see some 86′s out there up against the big Horsepower machines, as Ennis is such a tight track the 1600 was a nice match.

And now for some inner car nerd….The owner kept the Genki sticker, who remembers Tokyo extreme racer for the Play station? (Shutokou Battle) Japan… or “Import Tuner Challenege” for the Xbox 360?

A little behind the scenes shot of some of the non-drifting that went down Saturday.

Mike Fitz’s FC looking better than ever, it was so enjoyable to hear the note of the rotary all weekend.

Two of the best looking non liveried cars in Prodrift this Year.

Ill leave you with this shot of Nicky Hallahan, who was tearing shit up all day Saturday.

More to come soon!
